Yokohama

Located just one hour from Tokyo, Yokohama can be a interesting day trip in our Tokyo vacations. I visited it a couple of times and I got the impression of being a small and city, I was completely wrong as Yokohama is the second largest city in Japan!

It has its own China Town which well worth a visit. Specially this shop as , from my point of view, has the best dumplings ever( even better that the famous Din Tai Fung!)

Pretty close from China Town we can take a take a calm walk through the park in the seaside until we reach the waterfront where, during the weekends, is normal to see concerts, exhibition and festivals.

If we keep walking we will reach Minato Mirai 21 which is the business district and the most famous spot in the city. Some of the highlights are: The Yokohama Landmark Tower, The Nippon Maru, the Yokohama Wheel and the Intercontinental Yokohama Grand. In other words, the place you want to take your tripod and take pictures around.

If you are into the Car tuning you should visit the Daikoku Futo , the couple of times I visited Yokohama I saw these people with their tuned card in that parking area but I didn’t know it is a famous spot in the scene. I was too far to take pictures, though is easy to see the cars driving around that area.

As always I visit a city, I search for the highest point to take some city pics from above. In Yokohama that place was pretty obvious: The Yokohama Landmark Tower, which I already had taken a bunch of pics from below.

In theory the Fuji is visible from the tower, though, in theory you can see it even from Tokyo if the day is clear enough. In any case, the view at night is quite impressive too

And finally, to anyone comming the city, I’d recommend to pay a visit to the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum. Even if you are not into ramen (Seriously???) it’s worth it, as the museum is a recreation of Tokyo streets in 1958 (year where the instant noodles were invented). They got it right, the atmosphere is like being in an old Japanese movie….perfect place to get lost around and take pictures everywhere!

Resuming, Yokohama is a pretty good day trip if you visit Tokyo for a few days! All pics here
